Pietro has a B.Proc degree together with a H. Dip. Company Law, a H. Dip. Tax Law and an Advanced Diploma in Labour Law and was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 1980.

After practising as an attorney until 1986, he joined AECI Limited as a legal adviser and later Samancor Limited (BHP Billiton) as a legal counsel until September 2004 when he joined DMKisch Inc. on 1 October 2004 as a Director and Head of the Commercial Department.

From 2010 up to his retirement on 30 April 2023, he practiced as a partner in Witz Inc, a boutique Law firm in Rosebank, Johannesburg, wherein he headed the Commercial Department.

Since his retirement, he has continued to represent selected clients and has practised for his own account as Pietro M Calicchio Law Consultants from Kwa Zulu Natal and has been advising and assisting clients in all aspects of Commercial and Company Law, Criminal, Competition, Income Tax and Occupational Health and Safety Law and the commercialisation of clients' Intellectual Property and to assist clients to comply with the new Companies Act and with the King III recommendations.

During his career in Commerce, he has specialized in all aspects of South African and International Commercial and Income Tax Law, including Competition/Anti-Trust Law and Occupational Health and Safety law, and has been involved in the establishment of local and international joint ventures/mergers and acquisitions at the highest level.
